Hamlet 50/50
Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival
|
Director: Vanessa Morosco
The world premiere adaptation of Hamlet into a production that maintains original text and intent while striving for gender parity in both quantity of lines and power dynamics on stage. In consultation with the director, I created a score that heightened tension and strove for dramatic moments while also steering clear of many of the more aggressively masculine musical gestures in modern orchestral music.
This transition ended by revealing the court in their full royal regalia.
Underscoring for the dumbshow of The Mousetrap. Swift, mysterious, and a little playful.
Another transition, later in the play.
Underscoring for the final swordfight. Each musical instrument was able to enter the music at a specific time, allowing the music to get more and less complex at very specific moments.
